Colwyn Bay 1
Tranmere Rovers 1.
THE SEAGULLS put on another encouraging display in their latest pre-season friendly, and were denied victory against a young Tranmere Rovers side by a last minute penalty.
Dave Challinor’s side continued to play a patient passing game and are settling into their system ahead of the upcoming Evostick Premiership season.
Chris Sanna returned in goal for the Bay, whilst strikers Ben Jones and Ian Sheridan were missing through injury.
The Llanelian Road crowd enjoyed their side playing the better football of the first half, with Lee Davey continuing his strong pre-season form with another goal, neatly finishing inside the far post for the lead on 25 minutes.
Danny Grannon went close with a header tipped over the bar, whilst Davey and Challinor both had further chances.
In the second half, Tom McGill, who again looked lively out wide, had a shot blocked by the Tranmere keeper, who also turned aside Davey’s follow up.
The Bay again looked tight at the back, but will be disappointed in conceding a penalty in the second minute of added time, which young striker Terry Gornell squeezed past Sanna who guessed correctly.
Player-boss Dave Challinor was disappointed to concede such a late equaliser, but was happy with the overall performance.
“It was the first full 90 minutes for many of our players and fitness told a bit in the second half when we tired and lost our shape a little bit, but I’m pleased with the way things are progressing,” he said.
There has been further good news for the Seagulls in the signing of Alex Titchiner, who impressed the Bay faithful last season and has signed on a free transfer.
After hosting Prestatyn Town in a friendly match last night (Tuesday), Colwyn Bay welcome Llangefni to Llanelian Road on Saturday (3pm).
