A top-quality third wicket partnership of 133 from Gareth Cross and Will Hantam swept Colwyn Bay to an emphatic victory over Wallasey, keeping alive their Liverpool Competition title challenge.

The two Bay professionals combined to make short work of Wallasey’s 151 total, smashing boundaries to all corners of the ground in an hour-long 24.4 over blitz.

Wallasey opted to bat first, but suffered two early losses with Ryan Holtby and Hantam taking one a-piece.

Wallasey regrouped and put together 42 for the third wicket, a spell which was ended by a superb Cross catch.

Three more quick losses, two to Hantam and one to Cross, put Wallasey in further trouble, and another fightback was ended when Charlie Club made a catch from a Ryan Holtby ball.

Wallasey finished on 151, with Cross and Hantam both taking three wickets before going on to seal the win with their outstanding partnership at the crease.

The 25 points garnered rom the match keeps Colwyn Bay in the title hunt, 28 points off leaders Lytham in fifth place.
