HARD-WORKING students at Rydal Penrhos celebrated record results.

The new A* grade, which is awarded to candidates who score more than 90 per cent in their final papers, was achieved by six students at the Colwyn Bay school.

Sixth formers Gillian Murphy, George Sturley and Tom White were awarded two A*s each. Ed Evans, Faye Palin-Thomas and Daisy Tudor were also rewarded with the new top grade.

The school gained the best performance since the current A-level curriculum was introduced ten years ago, with 64 per cent of pupils scoring grades A* - B.
An impressive 82 per cent achieved A*- C grades, which matches the school’s previous best results.

In 20 out of 21 subjects pupils achieved a 100 per cent pass rate, and all candidates in half the departments scored a C grade or higher.

Patrick Lee-Browne, headteacher, praised all this year’s leavers. He said: “Many congratulations to everyone who sat their final exams this summer. Many pupils have exceeded their expectations, and the results reflect all their hard work and the support from their teachers and families.

“They have really earned their reward of good university places, and the school is proud of their academic achievement as well as all the other contributions that they made during their time here. There is greater pressure than ever before for university places, but our leavers are moving on to their chosen universities with excellent prospects, and I wish them all the best for the future,” he added.
