THERE WAS a rise in the number of GCSE pupils who have gained five A* to C grades at Blessed Edward Jones in Rhyl.
A spokeswoman for the Catholic High School praised the students for their work, despite a “difficult” year due to the absence of the head teacher Mrs Catherine Britton as a result of illness.
The spokeswoman said: “Blessed Edward Jones are pleased to announce an increase in the number of pupils achieving five A* to C grades at GCSE, with 40 per cent of students entered reaching the level 2 threshold of 5 A* to C grades at GCSE or equivalent.
“There were some outstanding performances from several students.”
Among the front runners were Liam Clayton who achieved 10 A* to C grades with two A*s, five As, and 3 Bs.
Bibi Shah achieved 10 A* to C grades with one A*, two As, 5 Bs and three Cs.

All of the Blessed Edward students saw some success, achieving at least one GCSE, with the majority moving onto college courses or into employment in their desired fields.
The spokeswoman for the school said: “Acting head teacher Mr Gary Sugrue wishes to thank the parents for their tremendous support during the year both to the school and their children in providing a sound basis for success.
“Thanks also to the teachers and support staff who worked tirelessly in maintaining a positive ethos at the school under difficult circumstances.
“Students are wished well in their future careers as they step in the wider community or further education and the school is rightly proud of their efforts this year.”
