PRESTATYN HIGH School students have “stars in their eyes” after the publication of this year’s GCSE results.

Phil Pierce, headmaster, said: “Never mind the X Factor, we have the wow factor at Prestatyn High this year.

“Our results are up by 11 per cent to 64 per cent at the level two threshold. 178 students achieved this landmark, the equivalent of five high grade passes. These are by far the best results the school has ever had.”

The top six students achieved 38 A* grades between them with Madeline Cotgreave leading the way with eight of the newly created top marks.

Mr Pierce said: “These grades haven’t happened by accident. I know how hard everyone at school including students, staff, parents and carers have tried.”

Alongside Madeline Cotgreave, who earned eight A* grades, one A and one B, Mathew Griffith scooped six A* grades and five As, while Alice Loftus achieved six A*s and four As.

Ebony Edwards gained six A* grades, four As and a B, Amy Foster came away with six A* grades and four As, Anthony Wood achieved six A* grades, three As and one B, while Shona Stockton earned six A* grades, two As and four Bs.

Mr Pierce said: “I am immensely proud of them all. We have also had lots of encouragement and support from officers in Denbighshire, a real team effort.

“I am sure many will want to enrol in the Sixth Form and I look forward to watching the next stage of their educational journey with us. Well done everyone.”
