EXCEPTIONAL Ysgol Eirias students bucked the national GCSE result trend.
A* to C grades were gained by an impressive 81 per cent of students. This year the Colwyn Bay school celebrated A level success, the best KS3 results in their history, an outstanding inspection report and the opening of a state of a art technology block.
Student Tim Nye topped the league with a fantastic 9A*, 2As and 1 distinction.
As well as studying a full range of GCSE’s 40 students say up to three additional A levels, gaining AS qualifications one year in advance in mathematics, music, Welsh and English.
Ysgol Eirias is the only centre in Wales with students studying the Diploma in ICT at intermediate level, delivered in collaboration with other centres in Conwy. A pass rate of 100 per cent was being celebrated.
Gifted pupil Robert Green gained 8A*, 2As and one distinction at GCSE and 2As and 1C at AS level.
Robert Ferdinando scooped 7A*, 2As and one distinction. Chuyan Yu gained 7A*s, 3As and one distinction at GCSE. He also took 1A at AS level.
Phil McTague, headteacher, said: “This has been an exceptional year. These are our best ever results, well above the Welsh and National averages which are borne of extremely hard work. The students and their families deserve our warmest congratulations.”
This year the school moved into a new, advanced, technology and language learning block costing four and a half million pounds, providing superb facilities for the students. The new block can be seen during the open evening on October 7 from 5pm to 7pm.
Record numbers of students this year are returning to the Sixth Form and enrolment will take place on Monday, September 6 from 1.20pm to 3pm.
