A CHEF and an electrician have teamed up as part of a charity challenge to cycle from John O’Groats to Lands End.

Mark Parsons and Tony Carter have decided to ride the length of Britain to raise money for Cancer Research and are aiming to collect £2,000.

Mark, who is a chef at Yale College’s Rendezvous restaurant, said: “I think cancer touches nearly everybody’s family or life.

“My wife’s family have been touched by it and Tony lost his father earlier this year.”

Mark, 35, said he wants to put money into a charity to help prevent cancer.

Mark and Tony, 40, of Minera, begin their journey on September 8 and will cycle about 130 to 150 miles a day and hope to complete their charity ride in just seven days.

“We are a bit anxious but we have been cycling as many miles a day as we can,” continued Mark, of Pentre, near Chirk.

“We have done 17 bike rides of 100 miles over the last three or four months.

“It is a big, big challenge.”

The pair are being supported by Alf Jones Cycles of Rhosnesni Lane, Acton which is sponsoring the riding gear and equipment, including energy drinks and food.

Mark’s dad Paul will be following the pair in a support vehicle.
