A MOTHER whose son was attacked by a dog is calling for dog owners to take responsibility.
Ann Parry from Llandudno was left shocked when her son eight-year-old Byron was bitten by a dog at the Fairways playground near their home. Neighbours dragged the Alsatian cross dog from the crying youngster on Sunday, August 22.
Brave Byron, who attends Ysgol Craig y Don suffered bites to his chest and arm.
Mrs Parry said the dog came charging towards children in the playground and said several children scrambled to the top of a climbing frame.
She said: “Byron was just playing and he didn’t realise. A 20-year-old man had bites up his leg because he tried to protect the children. Two police officers had been attacked."
“A neighbour came to the door and Byron had blood on his chest and arm. It was terrible,” she added.
Mrs Parry said Byron, who has a cleft palate, has endured operations on his face.
She said: “I am just glad the dog didn’t get his face. Everytime we come home from the children’s hospital we think everything is ok, then something like this happens.”
Last week the Pioneer reportedhow a spokesman for North Wales Police said neighbours were looking after the dog while the was away. He said the animal was secured and the owners have agreed to have their dog destroyed.
Mrs Parry said: “I had a Rottweiler and we never let the dog out. Dog owners do need to take responsibility for their pets.”
Byron said the incident will not stop him having contact with his favourite animals including his nain and taid’s dog Mitzy.
Owner of the dog which attacked Byron, Kathleen Williams, said she was away from home when her garden fence was damaged and her dog escaped.
She said: “I am gutted about it. I have three children and Tricky has been around the children and has never done anything like this. I can’t understand it. I said to the police if a child has been harmed the dog should be destroyed.”
