A HEAVY-HITTING Bank Holiday Weekend of Cricket saw Colwyn Bay smash almost 500 runs in their two matches.

The Bay hit 253 against Northop Hall on Saturday, thanks to a superb 88 from Zac Gidlow, who put on 41 with Carwyn Williams before a fruitful partnership with Sion Morris, who scored 48, put his side in control.

Graeme Cross (41) and Will Hantam (32) further contributed to give Cowlyn Bay a commanding lead, but Northop had other ideas, and took to their innings with gusto, scoring 124 runs before the first wicket.

The game took another dramatic turn as the visitors lost four wickets in quick succession, with Ryan Holtby and Paul Jenkins taking two each.

But another strong partnership worth 80 runs for the fifth wicket again tilted the match in Hall’s favour, who went on to reach their total in the 47.2 over.

A more favourable result was earned on Monday, however, with Colwyn Bay beating Prestatyn by 94 runs.

Zac Gidlow had another impressive afternoon, top scoring on 67, whilst Dafydd Rhys (51) and Hantam (41) helped the Bay push to 226 for eight before declaring.

After the interval, Prestatyn steadily lost wickets, slumping well short of their target on 134 runs thanks to six wickets for 49 from Paul Jenkins.

Ryan Holtby took two and Ed Williams Grey and Sion Morris one each to round off the scoring, securing victory in the 35 overs.

COLWYN BAY seconds' match with Leigh was abandoned at the weekend, whilst the thirds suffered a heavy defeat away to St. Helens.

The hosts posted a total of 252 for seven from their 45 overs, with the Bay able only to reach 138 from their innings, despite a gutsy 62 from J Coates.
