CONWY UNITED got revenge on Denbigh Town after their opening day of the season defeat, getting through to the next round of the Welsh Cup after coming from behind to secure a 2-1 victory.

Denbigh took the lead 20 minutes in after an unfortunate deflection sent the ball into the path of Denbigh forward Ian Evans, who slotted home.

But some trickery from Toby Jones shortly after allowed him to cross for Ben Hughes, who chested the ball down and finished with aplomb for the equaliser.

Conwy then took the lead five minutes before half time, with Jones again providing, this time for Mike Williams, who slammed the ball through the Denbigh keeper and into the net.

Both sides enjoyed chances in the second half in an excellent game, but Conwy held onto their lead to go through.

The match was followed up on Bank Holiday Monday by a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Caernarfon Town, extending COnwy’s winning streak to five matches.

Llandudno Junction FC endured a torrid week after their blistering start to the season, losing 6-1 to Llanfairpwll and crashing out of the Welsh Cup to Holyhead Hotspur.

Mike Lundstram was upended in the box with the match just two minutes old, and he stepped up to slot home the penalty to give Junction the lead.

But the match turned sour from that point on, as the hosts began dominating the play, scoring two minutes later and taking the lead in the 19th minute to go in at half time 2-1 up.

Llandudno enjoyed a resurgence in the second half, but another goal on 70 minutes proved to be a hammer blow, with Junction losing their discipline by receiving two red cards and conceding another three goals.

The weekend’s cup match then saw Junction go 3-0 down to Holyhead at half time, and despite an improved performance in the second half, during which Llandudno pulled a couple back, it was not enough to prevent a 4-2 defeat.

Glan Conwy also suffered defeat in their league match this week, as Holywell Town earned got off the mark for the season with a 2-0 win.

Glan also lost out 7-3 to Borras Park in their second round cup clash earlier in the week.
