Residents welcome parking proposals

PROPOSED parking changes have been praised but Rhyl residents say more still needs to be done.

Denbighshire County Council put forward a proposal that areas of Kings Avenue in Rhyl should be restricted to residents and visitors only, rather than the road being used for waiting, unloading and loading of vehicles.

Within the new proposal, residents will be able to purchase a permit for £25, unless they hold a blue disabled badge in which case the permit will be provided for free.

At a meeting on September 1, Rhyl Town councillors decided that they would not objectto the proposal.

Cllr Geraldine Anne Jones, of the Bodfor Ward, said: “I think the decision is correct for the area. There has been indescriminate parking which has caused problems with the residents. Although there will be some people who are not happy, the majority of residents are pleased they can park outside their own properties.
If people can’t park outside their own properties, where can they park?”

However, Debbie Whalley, 46, who lives above her partner’s business Davy Jones Locker on Wellington Road, said she thought the charges should be extended over more roads in Rhyl.

Ms Whalley said she knew of one disabled man who had experienced problems parking outside his own house.

Ms Whalley, whose 13-year old-daughter also suffers from a disability and sometimes has to be picked up from school at short notice, said: “I can only park outside my front door for two hours. I’ve then got to move my car for another two hours so I can come back again. There are parts of town where a lot of disabled people come shopping and park here and then they get a parking ticket because it’s classed as a loading bay. I asked a traffic warden to see if I could get a permit and I was told no.”

A spokeswoman from Denbighshire Council said that there were no plans to introduce more resident parking in Rhyl because the Council required written notification from residents requesting that parking provision be introduced.
