A NUMBER of developers have indicated an interest in Colwyn Bay’s iconic Imperial Hotel, which has been put up for sale.
Several parties have shown an interest in the town centre property, which is valued at £850,000.
Daniel Wild, from the Imperial’s listers Wild Commercial Property, said there had already been strong interest in the now vacated property.
“We have had some interest already, there are various parties looking at it,” he said.
He also indicated that several uses for the property had been suggested, but doubted it’s suitability as a site for flats.
“I do believe putting in flats would be difficult, with the upper floors currently used up as hotel rooms - it would take a lot of work,” he said.
“If people are interested and can get planning permission, then there’s not a lot that is going to stop it, but there are various ideas being sounded out at the moment.”
The four story Victorian hotel on Station Road is owned by Machester Brewery JW Lees, and has been vacant for over a fortnight.
Cllr Chris Hughes hoped that any development of the plot would bring more jobs to Colwyn Bay and continue a recent increase in commercial properties in the town.
“Hopefully it will bring jobs to the area; that is what I believe the town needs to support it’s redevelopment,” he said.
“Colwyn Bay is attracting a lot of retail development, and a lot of properties that have been unused have been filled recently.
“If it is not going to be used as a public house, then it’s most appropriate use would be as a commercial development, seeing as it is in the heart of town.”
