Colwyn Bay 2 Hucknall Town 0
COLWYN BAY face a challenging cup clash this weekend with Marine FC following back-to-back league wins.
Earlier this week, Bay boss Dave Challinor signed highly rated 23 year-old midfielder Gareth Evans from Llandudno.
On Saturday, Colwyn Bay showed their quality at both ends of the pitch with a confident victory over Hucknall Town.
Some resolute defending from the Seagulls’ rearguard, and in particular from Chris Sanna, saw Colwyn Bay record a hard earned clean sheet, whilst Ian Sheridan and Karl Noon kept up their recent fine form to score both of the Bay’s goals.
Dave Challinor’s efforts over the summer in rebuilding the Bay’s squad seem to be paying off, with his side now sitting comfortably in mid table after a strong start and some impressive performances.
“We didn't play as well as we have over the past couple of weeks and we were a little bit flat, but we got the goals at a really important time and that gave us the impetus going into half-time," he said after the match.
Sanna put in the same type of comanding performance that won him plaudits last season, and had to be on top form from the off, saving at point blank range on 18 minutes.
Two goals in seven minutes at the end of the first half sealed the win, with an incisive passing move allowing Mick McGraa to set up Ian Sheridan on 37 minutes, who finished with aplomb for the opener.
McGraa then weighed up a perfect pass for Noon to double the lead on 44 minutes, and there was even time for John Newby to almost make it three before the whistle, but his effort cleared the bar.
Hucknall pressed in the second period looking to get back in the match, but were rebuffed by a steadfast Bay defence.
The Bay went on to record an excellent 4-1 win away to Kendal Town on Tuesday night, thanks to strikes from Danny Grannon, Jon Newby and Ian Sheridan, as well as an own goal from Kendal defender Martin Moran.
