MORE THAN £300,000 of investment is required to bring pleasure steamers back to Llandudno Pier, according to a report commissioned by Conwy County Council.

A survey carried out last October by engineering firm Daltrys indicated that repairs and improvements to the piers berthing platform would be budgeted at about £320,000, and could attract large boats back to the seaside resort.

Ken Finch, Acting Chief Executive for Conwy County Council, indicated that there were currently no plans to commission work on the pier.

“In October 2009, the Council commissioned a survey of the berthing platform on Llandudno Pier, the reasons for which are set out in the report ,” he said.

“The Council has a clear interest in generating and promoting tourism to the whole of the county borough, and if it were possible for the berthing facility at Llandudno pier to be reinstated it would allow visiting pleasure boats such as the Balmoral and Waverley to return to the resort.

“As with other tourism or regeneration proposals, the Council is prepared to talk to and work alongside other organisations, including the owners of Llandudno Pier, in order to assist.

“However, it is important to note that the Council has not commissioned any physical work and nor does it intend to, because it is not the Council’s property or its place to do so.”
