A RENEWED effort has been made to regenerate a former attraction on Llandudno’s pier.

Councillors are keen to keep up momentum on the former site of the Pier Pavillion, which has remained vacant since its burning down in 1994.

The council have made an attempt to contact the site’s owner, a Worcestershire businessman.

Other issues with the site include legal restrictions as to its usage, as well as its remaining a listed building.

Cllr Christine Jones, who represents Craig y Don ward, brought the issue to the fore at a council meeting, and is eager to see further development.

She said “I felt that nothing was being done. No priority was given to the issue when officers looked at the site, and I thought that perhaps we could make a bit of headway.”

“It’s in a prominent position, and in a big tourist town like Llandudno, it’s a big embarrassment. The owners should be ashamed of themselves.”

Cllr Greg Robbins, chairman of Llandudno Town Council’s planning commission, also welcomed progress on the issue.

He said “I am very pleased that Conwy County Borough Council is attempting to make contact with the owner of the Pier Pavilion site with a view to moving forward on developing this blight on Llandudno.”

He added that the site was “the most common topic of conversation with constituents”
