A NEW recycling centre in Rhyl will open next Monday.

The recycling park in Marsh Road is split level so householders will no longer have to climb steps to skips to get rid of their rubbish.

A Denbighshire council spokeswoman said: “A one-way system will be in place and the vast majority of truck movements will take place away from the public areas making the new Recycling Park safer, cleaner and more convenient for visitors.”

The park is on the former Morfa landfill directly opposite the old Marsh Lane civic amenity site which will close on Sunday

The council will also close the Prestatyn Recycling Park on December 5.

A council spokeswoman made an assurance that no jobs would be lost and that all workers would transfer to the new site.

Thanks to the new facilities, less than 20 per cent of the household waste taken to the new Recycling Park will be sent to landfill.

Cllr Sharon Frobisher, lead member for environment, said: “Householders will be able to recycle all the materials they expect to recycle, things like garden waste and cardboard, but we will now be able to recycle new things like mattresses, furniture and carpets for the first time.

“This will ensure Denbighshire remains one of the best places to recycle in Wales.”

Cllr Frobisher said that the new recycling park would help Denbighshire achieve a 60 per cent recycling rate.

The council said neither the Prestatyn nor Rhyl sites met current Environment Agency standards and both were earmarked for closure once a new recycling park was built.
