AROUND 80 passengers were evacuated when a train derailed near Welshpool.
The incident happened at 8.15pm last night just outside Welshpool and saw several wheels from the front carriage come off the tracks.
No-one was hurt in the derailment of the Birmingham to Aberystwyth train and firefighters led passengers, including a pregnant woman, to safety.
An investigation into the derailment is under way.
Mid and West Fire Service said: "Approximately 80 passengers have been assisted from the train by Fire Service and Railtrack personnel.
"We have had no reports of any casualties. We had five appliances at the scene."
Arriva Trains have said that train services between Shrewsbury and Machynlleth have resumed again after closures on the line this morning.
A spokesperson for Arriva Trains Wales has said: "We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
