TRIBUTES HAVE poured in after the death of a Penrhyn Bay girl described as a “shining star”, who died following drastic weight loss.
Jodie Mills, 18, died at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd after treatment for a sudden loss in weight, four days before her nineteenth birthday.
Graham Davies, headteacher at Ysgol John Bright, said that the staff had been left “saddened” by Jodie’s death and noted the exceptional academic talents she displayed during her time as a pupil, including her achieving three A* and an A grades at A-Level.
He said “She was a star student, and we’re exceptionally sad that someone with so many talents and her whole life ahead of her has died so young. She was a shining star in terms of academic ability.
He added “The sixth form in particular have been affected by her death, but the staff and teachers here are all saddened as well.”
Staff at Venue Cymru, where Jodie had worked part-time on the sweets counter, had been similarly affected by her passing.
Roger Richardson, assistant general manager at Venue Cymru, said “We couldn’t believe it. It’s just so dreadful. She was fantastic, and everybody had great expectations for her. She will be greatly missed by all her friends here. It’s hit everybody quite hard.”
Friends have flocked to Jodie’s Facebook page and left their tributes and condolences to her family.
One friend, Joshua Au Yeung, left the message “What always surprised me was how humble you were, a trait that is almost impossible to find in people as gifted as you. It was truly a pleasure and privilege to be your friend. I promise you that when I become a doctor, I will do everything I can in my power to help people that would be in a situation like yours.”
Jodie’s funeral will take place at 1:15pm tomorrow, December 16 at St David’s Church Hall in Penrhyn Bay, followed by a private burial.
