A QUICK-THINKING Penrhyn Bay teenager saved the life of her sisters during a blaze.

13 year old Alishaa Williams contacted North Wales Fire and Rescue Service after a fire broke out at her Trafford Park home, at 12:33am on Monday morning.

After being alerted by a fire alarm, she awoke and found she was unable to leave her ground-floor room due to thick amounts of smoke.

She contacted a fire control operator, and stayed on the phone with them whilst she and her two sisters, Louise, aged eight, and Sophie, aged eighteen months, escaped through downstairs windows which she broke open using a laptop.

Five fire appliances from Rhyl, Llandudno and Colwyn Bay attended the incident, and used six sets of breathing apparatus, four hose reel jets and one main jet to tackle the fire and rescue the three adults from the first floor.

A 32 year old woman named Lorraine and a 38 year old man Craig were taken to hospital in a critical condition. An NHS spokesperson was unable to confirm their condition at time of going to print.

The mother of the girls, Carys, 32, was confirmed to have been released from hospital by North Wales Fire and Rescue.

Fire Officer Alyn Edwards, who attended the scene, commended Alishaa’s bravery and self-control.

He said “She was very, very calm and did exactly as she was advised to do, and she was trying to look after the other two children, which is an awful lot to cope with when putting in a fire call. Without her actions, it could have been a real disaster.”

An investigation is underway to establish the cause of the fire.

Gary Brandrick, Senior Operations Manager, also praised Alishaa’s actions.
He said: “Her actions helped to ensure she and her two sisters escaped safely from the house. She notified us of the fire and of the fact that there were a further three adults in the upstairs of the building.”
