COUNCIL TAX is set to rise by 2.9 per cent in Denbighshire.

Denbighshire County Council has set its budget for the 2011 to 2012 financial year and has agreed the council tax budget will increase by 2.9%.

A Denbighshire spokeswoman said: “This is expected to be one of the lowest increases in North Wales. A booklet detailing information about the council tax will be distributed with council tax bills during March.”

In neighbouring Conwy County, which covers Kinmel Bay and Abergele, the council has proposed that council tax should rise by 3.71 per cent.

This would mean that “Band D” households, who live in an “average” size house according to Council criteria, may pay an extra £30.43 a year, which is the equivalent to 59p per week.

Look out for a reaction to the announcement in next week's Journal.
