EXCITEMENT is growing in an Anglesey village ahead of a visit from the world’s most popular couple.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are due to visit Trearddur Bay RNLI lifeboat station tomorrow (Thursday, February 24) to officially name its new inshore lifeboat, the Hereford Endeavour.

Anglesey councillor Eric Roberts, who represents Trearddur Bay, will attend, and said that residents are looking forward to the visit.

“I am very happy to go and it’s a great honour to be invited,” he said. “I hope will have the chance to speak to them, but we will just have to see what happens on the day.”

Bob Smale of Trearddur Stores, was delighted that the prince and Kate Middleton would visit the village.

“I think it’s fantastic and it’s going to put Trearddur bay on the map,” he said. “They ought to come to my shop and buy a breakfast bap!”

Volunteers at the station will all attend the visit, and are very excited to welcome the couple, according to operations manager Aubrey Diggle.

“We’ve been working hard making sure that the place is ship shape for the visit,” he said. “A dedication ceremony is a big thing for any station, but to have the Prince and Miss Middleton to do ours is obviously and even bigger pleasure.”

Prince William is currently based at RAF Valley, Anglesey in his role as a full time RAF Search and Rescue Pilot.

Mr Diggle added: “22 Squadron and lifeboat stations all along the coast have got a long history of working combined rescue operations, and we’re very grateful that the prince has chosen a career as a rescue pilot.”
