BUSINESSES and residents in Conwy are due to benefit from faster internet speeds.
Roadworks on Abergele Road in Colwyn Bay are being undertaken as part of the Welsh Assembly’s £30million FiberSpeed project to install a fibre-optic network.

A Welsh Assembly spokeswoman said: “A 96-core optical fibre cable is being laid that will form part of a regional fibre-optic network in North Wales linking up to 14 strategic business parks throughout the region with advanced, high-speed broadband services. This particular part of the network is expected to be completed within next three weeks.”

The network will also bring the price of high bandwidth internet services in the area down to similar levels to those in London and the South East of England.

Deputy First Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones said: “An advanced telecommunications infrastructure is absolutely vital to the kind of economic development we want to achieve in Wales. FibreSpeed is a major step in the creation of an infrastructure, which will give a whole range of Welsh companies and organisations a standard of communications services easily equal to the best in Britain.”
