Conwy's new army of traffic wardens have raked in more than half a million in fines in their first year.
The figures have met with some approval, but dismay in other quarters.
The attendants have issued 16,640 tickets in their first year in charge.
Given that tickets cost £30 or £60, depending on how quickly they are paid, motorists have had to cough up somewhere between £1/2 million - £1 million in fines between September 2006 and 2007.
In total, 12979 tickets were given for 'on-street contraventions' and 3661 for 'car park contraventions'.
Conwy Council took over the function of issuing parking tickets from North Wales Police in September '06 and coined the term 'decriminalised parking enforcement'.
The police issued 283 tickets in the four months prior to the change over, whereas the council issued 5,448 tickets in the four months after taking charge.
Cllr Abdul Khan said that although there had been 'teething problems' with the volume of tickets issued since the take over, there had been an overall positive impact on Colwyn Bay.
He said: "People now find it easier to park in the town because there is a quicker turn over of cars. Most traders are happy because people can get to their shops more easily.
"It has been difficult to get the balance right in some areas, such as Penrhyn Road, where cafe owners would like people to be allowed to park for longer so they can relax a bit more.
"The highways department are looking into this."
Hywel Williams, who owns a sewing shop on Upper Mostyn Street, Llandudno, was more critical and described the council's parking attendants as 'over zealous'.
He added: "There was an elderly woman who was parked no more than 6 inches over the line. Instead of kindly asking her to move her car slightly they booked her.
"I think they can sometimes be quite childish in their attitude.
" I also think the council use the tickets as another stealth tax."
Julie Tate-Williams, owner of the Moulin Rouge cafe and head of Llandudno Traders organisation, said that traffic had started flowing more freely through the town since the stricter parking regulations.
However, she also complained that shoppers at Parc Llandudno where allowed to park for longer and often did not come down Upper Mostyn Street.
The council will release a full report on their parking operations in the new year.
Do you think Conwy Council have done a good job with parking enforcement, or are they too quick to book people?
