LLANDUDNO Junction residents appalled by the litter caused by a local supermarket are breathing a sigh of relief following a major clean up operation.
Plastic bags and general rubbish generated by the Tesco superstore made the site look an “eyesore” according to nearby residents and visitors.

But after a series of complaints, the store have taken action and cleaned up the site and surrounding area.

Local resident James Hughes was especially concerned about the excessive amounts of rubbish caused by the supermarket giant.

“It was absolutely disgusting - a real eyesore - especially the area around the roundabout,” said Mr Hughes. “I know quite a few people had been voicing their concerns for some time.

“To be fair though, they seem to have cleaned up most of it.”

A spokeswoman for Tesco confirmed that rubbish was an issue, but that the Llandudno Junction store was taking steps to tackle the problem and its effect on the local environment.

She said: “We are aware of a few problems with rubbish, which are mostly down to the bad weather we have been having. The store are sending out staff on a weekly basis to clean up any rubbish, including other waste like leaves. We would like to do it more often, but it is an incredibly busy store.”

A national initiative cutting down on plastic bag use is currently being implemented by most major supermarket chains including Tesco, Morrisons and ASDA, in a bid to reduce their effect on the environment and reduce overall waste.
