PLANS to convert a hotel into a Travelodge are expected to be reviewed by the Welsh Assembly this week.

Last March Conwy Estates, who were working in conjunction with Travelodge applied for planning permission on the site of Tudno Castle Hotel, Vaughan Street. The proposal suggested partial demolition of the hotel, demolition of the garage, and 'extensions and alterations' to create 70 bedrooms, a restaurant, a shop and car park. The shop was thought to be an Ethel Austin.

When the plans came to light last year independent hoteliers were concerned about the effect the plans would have on their businesses.

The decision has been passed to the Planning Inspectorate. A spokesman for the Welsh Assembly said: "It has been called in. A decision on how to proceed will be made at the end of this week and it may go to a public inquiry."

For the latest information and to view the decision made, keep checking the North Wales Pioneer website.
