Final approval has been given to develop a two new restaurants in Llandudno’s Mostyn Champneys.

Conwy County Borough Council’s (CCBC) planning committee approved recommendations to accept proposals put forward involving the McDonalds restaurant.

Approved plans will see the current McDonalds site removed and make way for a new restaurant while another two-storey McDonalds, with an improved drive through facility, will be erected next to Iceland.

The development will lead to a reduction of 51 parking spaces within Mostyn Champneys.

The new restaurants are expected to create 70 jobs and safeguard a further 116.

The motion to approve the recommendations saw 11 out a possible 15 councillors vote in favour of the change, this was despite some discussion about the supposed increased traffic a new restaurant and upgraded McDonalds would bring.

However a highway officer, during the planning committee meeting, said: “There’s a McDonalds there already, so that’s a like for like and the extra food establishment is to enhance that area. There is no material change in traffic volume because of this. So we couldn’t ask for much more.”

DPP Planning’s Gary Sutton also spoke at the planning meeting and said he was looking forward to what the project had to offer.

Mr Sutton said: “Consent from Conwy Coucnil have enabled operators such as TK Maxx, Wilko and B&M to secure representation in Llandudno which has helped to reinforce the town’s overall role in attraction whilst also making an important economical contribution in terms of job creation.

Mostyn Champneys continues to evolve in response to changes in the retail leisure sector as evidence by this proposal for two new restaurants to compliment the parks primary retail function.”

“We hope the council will continue to support British Land in delivering further worthwhile development and jobs at Mostyn Champneys.”
