Llandudno's Venue Cymru have reduced its waste collection cost by more than 50 per cent.

Over the past five years the venue has worked to improve its recycling system and attempt to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.

Thousands of tonnes goes to landfill daily from the area and the considerable charges paid by Conwy County Borough Council for this service means that every effort needs to be made in order to reduce this.

Martin Smith, a member of the Venue Cymru recycling team, said: “Venue Cymru used to have 12 general waste bins on site, holding 1,100 litres each and the cost for general waste collections alone were totalling £13.7K per annum (pa).

"With the improvements in place the bins have been reduced to just two, with an average of six collections a month which drastically reduces this cost to £1,584pa.”

The use of paper, plastic, cardboard and glass igloos have increased the capacity for recycling storage with these receptacles replacing the weekly emptied wheelie bins.

Plans are being made to further reduce waste from the site.
