The Deganwy Post Office closed its doors last week.

Owners Roderna Silalahi and husband John McEwen had their last day at the Post Office last week having resigned from their positions and withdrawn from their lease of the building.

The couple held a farewell party last Wednesday to mark their final day with residents turning out to say a final goodbye.

Customer Pauline Ainsworth said: "Derna and John made us very welcome when we moved here, and we will remain friends and continue to meet for coffee."

Now former owner Mrs Silalahi said it was great to see so many people come to see them on their final day and was overwhelmed with the kind words and gifts her and her husband received.

She was hoping someone new would now take over the service and continue to service the community.

Mrs Silalahi said: "There are lots of customers that come in to use the the Post Office, it is a really important service for them.

"Hopefully there will be some positive news as to the next owner soon."

Post Office Ltd said this was a temporary closure and they were working hard to restore the service to the community.

A Post Office Ltd spokesperson added: "We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of Deganwy Post Office following resignation of the Postmaster and the withdrawal of the premises for Post Office use.

"The branch was run by an independent retailer who recently closed their shop and at the same time resigned from the Post Office.

"While we always work hard to maintain Post Office services, we are not the owner of the premises and regrettably, we are unable to re-open the branch at present.

"We understand how important a Post Office can be to a community and would like to reassure customers that we are working hard to restore services to them as soon as possible."

Customers can still access Post Office services at Ronald Road Post Office (163 Conway Road, Llandudno Junction, Conwy, LL31 9EG) and Conwy Post Office (7 Lancaster Square, Conwy, LL32 8HT).
