ONE of the men who died following a crash in Old Colwyn on Wednesday night has been named locally as Martin Kelly.

Mr Kelly, thought to be from the Llysfaen area, was taken to Glan Clwyd Hospital by ambulance following the crash but sadly later died.

The collision took place shortly after 6pm on the A547 Abergele Road, between Old Colwyn and Llanddulas. A black Ford Focus and silver Vauxhall Vivaro van were involved.

The driver of the Ford Focus, who was from Lancashire, was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr Kelly is understood to have been the passenger.

The driver of the Vauxhall van was also left with minor injuries.

Tributes have been posted on Facebook to Mr Kelly. The former Ysgol Eirias pupil had a young daughter.

One friend wrote: "Sad sad news RIP Martin Kelly. My old pal so glad we had a catch up yesterday."

Another posted: "Can't believe someone died so soon life snatched away, you never know what life throws at you. Live it to the full enjoy every day and live life with no regrets rip. Martin Kelly a true gent."

Sergeant Jason Diamond of the Roads Policing Unit said: "Our thoughts very much remain with the men’s family and friends at this time.

"We are appealing for witnesses to this collision and anybody who may have information is asked to contact us.

"We are particularly interested in speaking to the occupant(s) of a small white saloon vehicle that was travelling along this road from the direction of Old Colwyn towards Llanddulas at the relevant time and who may have witnessed the collision.

"If you are the driver of that car please contact us."

The families of both men are being supported by specialist Family Liaison Officers from both North Wales Police and Lancashire Constabulary.

The road was re-opened shortly after midnight.
