A man who pleaded guilty to robbery at a newsagent’s was warned by a judge that “nothing apart from custody” will be considered in his case.
Darren Pomeroy, aged 22, of Maes Refail, Henryd, Conwy, admitted robbery of alcohol and beverages from assistant Judith Hughes at the Premier Broadway store at Penrhyn Bay on May 3.
Richard Edwards, prosecuting at Caernarfon crown court on Monday, revealed that in May 2016 at the same court he’d been sent to a young offenders’ institution for 28 months for robbery.
Judge Huw Rees granted an application by Matthew Dunford, defending, for a pre sentence report from the probation service.
Pomeroy, who appeared via a video link from Altcourse prison, where he is on remand, will be sentenced at the end of the month.
Judge Rees told him : “I want to make it very clear to you that nothing apart from custody is to be considered in your case. I will adjourn for a report to hear more about you.” Jail would be “for a lengthy period.”
A second man, Matthew Ward, also aged 22, of Chapel Street, Penmaenmawr, who is jointly charged, will enter a plea when his barrister is available. He also appeared via video link.
