Parents have stopped taking their children to one of the most popular playgrounds in Colwyn Bay labelling it "very dangerous".

Old rusty screws had been left protruding from old wooden panels on play equipment in Eirias Park for weeks before Conwy County Borough Council (CCBC) acted.

Parent, James Lambert, has been taking his two children Jasmine, 6, and Freya, 16 months, three or four times a week for the past few years and said he'd now been forced to look elsewhere because of the risk the screws posed to his children.

Mr Lambert said: "Both my girls are full of energy and love going to Erias park. It's very convenient to go there.

"It's probably one of the best frames in the local area as toddlers who are just finding their feet are able to get on there.

"I have made comments to friends who take their children too about the park starting to get a bit tatty and in need of a touch up.

"When I first saw the screws sticking out of the wood I grabbed Freya, my youngest, straight away and took her onto the wings instead and I am using a different park for now.

"I do think it's very dangerous, it's on the steep sloping part of the frame which the rotting wood can be quite slippy.

"If a child as young as my own was to fall on it, it could really hurt them or impale them, or worse if it was a head injury for example their face and eyes. It really makes me feel a bit sick just thinking about it."

After being approached by the North Wales Pioneer last week, following letters being sent to the council by Mr Lambert, a CCBC spokesperson said the issues with the screws had been resolved.

The spokesperson added: "The screws have been removed and work to replace the timbers will be carried out soon."
