OLD Colwyn Bowling Club opened its doors to start its 114th year yesterday (March 20) to welcome the 2024 crown green bowling season.

The green was formally opened by club president, Jim McGaugie.

Jim said: “It is my pleasure to be opening the green for the coming season. 

“The green and the grounds look fabulous; a big thank you to all of our member volunteers who make this happen.

“I hope all of our teams have a great season.”

The club has five teams playing in a number of bowling leagues within North Wales.

The teams play against other crown green bowling club teams on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday afternoons and Wednesday evening.

In addition, social, non-competitive, friendly games are held on Monday and Thursday afternoons.

Club chairman, Clive Wooff, said: “We are always looking to welcome new members of all ages and abilities, to bowl on a social basis or competitively in one of our teams.

“We offer different types memberships: full playing, social, junior and country members (those living further afield but play when in the area).”

Free taster and coaching sessions are also held on Thursdays from 10am – 12pm for anyone interested in trying crown green bowling.

Free tuition and use of bowls are available, as well as friendly faces to meet and chat to - flat, closed footwear is all you need (no open toe footwear).
