A two-week old foal has been rescued from the Conwy Mountain after being spotted by a walker.

The foal was found weak and sheltered behind a tree when it was rescued by the RSPCA animal collections officers (ACO) Will Galvin and Ann Lloyd Williams on Monday.

Mr Galvin said: “A group of walkers believe they saw the foal’s mother fall off a cliff. The foal then followed them towards the bottom of the mountain near Bangor Road.

“When we arrived the foal was sheltering behind a tree and was very weak. She’s only around two weeks old and must have been very scared on her own without her mum. We searched the area for the mother but sadly we weren’t able to find any trace of her.

“The foal - who has been named Daffy - is now in our care, where she will be kept a close eye on. It is so sad that she has lost her mum, but she’s now in a safe place where she will be able receive the care she needs to grow stronger and recover from her ordeal.

“Many thanks go of course to the caller who reported the situation in the first place and we would urge members of the public who spot an animal in pain or distress to call the RSPCA's 24-hour helpline on 0300 1234 999."
