A CHURCH has been given a funding boost of £10,000 to help transform it into a community hub.

St Cynbryd Church in Llanddulas received the National Churches Trust Community Grant for its project to install much-needed facilities.

The place of worship is one 55 churches and chapels in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland that are set to benefit from rescue funding of £425,183 from the National Churches Trust, the UK’s church support charity.

The church also receives a £2,000 National Churches Trust Micro-Grant in partnership with the Cinnamon Network to help towards a recognised social action project.

Huw Edwards, broadcaster and journalist and vice-president of the National Churches Trust, said: "I’m delighted St Cynbryd’s will remain at the centre of the local community with the help of the grant.

"At the heart of communities in cities, towns and villages, churches are a treasure trove of architecture, history and faith.

"This will help ensure the future of the historic church."

The Llanddulas base plans to install a kitchen and toilets in efforts to make the church more welcoming to the community and help initiate more community projects.

The project will ensure the historic Grade II listed building will be able to meet the needs of the community for years to come.

It is hoped the base will become popular with schools in the area who will be able to make more use of the building.

Parent and toddler groups are planned as well as holiday clubs and exercise classes.

Rev’d Roger Watts, rector of St Cynbryd’s, added: “This marvellous grant bring us very close to having enough funds to start the project to install toilets and a kitchen which will fulfil a long-standing need and enable the church to expand its mission in the village."
