CONWY area has raised four fifths of its fund raising target for the 2019 National Eisteddfod to be held at Llanrwst in 2019.

Conwy, Llandudno Junction, Deganwy and Gyffin was set a target of £25,000, and has already raised £20,000.

Bill Chapman, chairman of the local fund raising committee explained there had been a series of events over recent months. He said: “We have raised £20,000 thanks to a lot of generous people in our communities. We are still pushing on to make sure hit the target and climb past it in the months to come.

“Individuals, groups, churches, chapels and businesses locally have made big efforts, either by donating to the fund directly or by organising events such as concerts, coffee mornings and auctions to raise money.

“In addition events like coffee mornings and concerts have a value in themselves by bringing people together, and helping create a sense of community, regardless of the fundraising effort.

“One example of the fund raising events was a concert by a young men's choir called Hogie'r Berfeddwlad at Llandudno Junction, which raised £625.”

Bill added: “The Eisteddfod is funded in part by the Welsh Government, but Conwy county has also to make a contribution of £325,000, and within that we had the £25,000 target.”
