The Conwy Islamic Society has made the single biggest donation ever to a Llandudno-based food bank.

The donation – equal to four pallets worth of supplies and including 1,000 tins of beans – was made to the Conwy Food Bank in Llandudno on Monday.

Food bank co-ordinator Antony Bennion said it was “brilliant” to have received such a large amount and would keep them going for the next few months.

He said: “It is the most we have ever received off one donation. We usually get that amount from a whole harvest, so this is mind-blowing.”

The donation was to made to mark the month of Ramadan, when Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset.

The group explained how some people around the world are unable to access food once the Ramadan daytime fast is over.

Able Muslims are therefore exhorted to provide foods to neighbours in need – and also to anywhere in the world where food is needed.

The Llandudno area comes into this latter category

Conwy Food Bank delivers between 70 and 100 parcels to people – ranging from family, single and couple packages – every month.

Mr Bennion said the parcels were getting bigger and bigger every month and this latest donation would certainly help.
