NEW stands could be built at Mochdre’s football ground as part of a 10-year strategy to improve the club.

Mochdre FC chairman Martin Brady has submitted a planning application for two 50-seater football stands at Mochdre Sports Association on Swan Road, Mochdre.

The sports ground is used for both the football club and Mochdre Cricket Club.

Mr Brady said the club hoped the football stands would benefit the whole community.

“We’ve recently developed a 10-year strategy which aims to transform the experience at Mochdre Sports FC for both spectators and players across the ages,” he said.

“By putting these new facilities in place as part of an early phase, we believe we can bring the club and the community even closer together, making the club a shining example of how grassroots clubs can provide a community hub whilst making it a platform for players of all ages to thrive.”

He added: “We are looking for partners to form part of an ambitious joint venture to deliver this transformation vision.”

The football stands are set to be considered by councillors at Conwy County Council’s planning committee meeting at Bodlondeb this Wednesday (August 9).

Planning officers have recommended the plans are approved.

If the planning committee gives the proposals the go-ahead, the stands will be built on an ‘L’ shaped piece of land within the southern corner adjacent to the existing football pitch.

The proposed stands would be positioned adjacent to the southeast and southwest sides of the pitch, sited behind the goal and adjacent to the half-way line respectively.

Each stand will consist of three rows of seats on inclining steps, covered by a rectangular-shaped canopy with a ‘lean-to roof’.

The applicant says the seating will be similar to Llangollen Football Club’s new stand but green in colour.

The ground can be accessed off Swan Road to the west, which leads to a car park and clubhouse.
