A SCHOOL in Llandudno, the only one in Wales which sells eggs to shops, will be visited by a Welsh government minister on St David’s Day.

lan Keith Jones, who has been Head of San Sior Primary School in Llandudno for 23 years, will show Hannah Blethyn, minister for the environment, the school’s extensive menagerie.

He said: “I will take the minister around the school with some of the children from the Eco Club, and will show her our menagerie which includes: monitor lizards, treefrogs, chameleons, geckos, various tortoises, chinchillas and numerous other species.

“She will also see our chickens and apiary and I’ll outline the impact this has on our standards.

Ian said: “Ysgol San Sior is the only school in Wales registered to supply eggs to shops, and produces more than 20,000 eggs each year. Profits from this enterprise enabled the school to set up an apiary with seven beehives and the honey they produce is sold at Conwy Honey Fair.”

He was invited to Clarence House for a private luncheon with Prince Charles last week to explain what the school does. Ian said: “Prince Charles heard about us from the World Wildlife Fund as we were awarded its Green Ambassador School status."

He added: “Inspectors from Estyn, the schools watchdog in Wales noted the significant impact these activities have on the children’s educational achievements."
