Junior and senior players from the Llandudno Cricket Club gave up some of their time over the Easter weekend in order to help the club and a charity.

Players and members walked from the Craig-y-don paddling pool, around the Great Orme finishing at the club in an attempt to raise funds for the restoration of their nets and a donation for St David's Hospice.

Llandudno Cricket Club junior co-ordinator Joe Lamb said: "Due to the authorities banning the club from holding the universally popular oval car boots in the summer, the club have to try to raise monies in other ways to keep facilities available for both senior players and the clubs youngsters for the summer season.

"Outdoor nets are due to start in the next couple of weeks and the club desperately need funds to ensure the young people in the town are able to train.

"Although the club has not been helped by the decision makers of the town, it is determined to continue its fine work in offering junior coaching to any youngster in the area wishing to participate in the country’s national summer sport."

Lamb said the club has been able t develop partnerships with schools in the area including Blessed William Davies, Ysgol Awel y Mynydd and Ysgol Gogarth and which they offer training to for their older pupils.

He added: "The impact of this reduced income (no car boot sale) may affect these partnerships but the club is working hard to ensure youngsters attending those schools are able to be offered free coaching in curriculum time at the Oval."
