A man has been taken to hospital following a two-car crash in Llandudno.

Bryniau Road was closed following the incident that happened just before 10.30am on Wendesday morning.

The incident was close to West Shore Surgery and involved a green Suzuki car and white Mini Cooper.  

The Wales Air Ambulance helicopter was called to scene and landed on a patch of green land nearby.

A local man, the driver of the Suzuki, has been taken to Glan Clwyd Hospital in a 'serious condition'.

A Welsh Ambulance spokesman said: "We were called at approximately 10:30am to reports of an incident involving two vehicles on Bryniau Road, Llandudno.

"We sent two emergency ambulances to the scene where the crews were supported by Wales Air Ambulance.

"One male patient was transported by road to Glan Clwyd Hospital.’

Robert Brock, who lives in Bryniau Road, saw the helicopter land, he said: "At about 10.30 this morning I saw an ambulance drive past with sirens blaring and blue lights flashing. It was followed by several police vehicles and another ambulance.

"Shortly afterwards the air ambulance helicopter arrived and landed on a patch of grass next to the road. Then the police closed off the road."

Nigel Osborne, the assistant manager of Able World, a shop selling mobility scooters, said the incident happened close to their premises.

He said: "The police have shut the road, and we were unable to get out to see what happened. But we did see the air ambulance land."

North Wales Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash.

Investigating officer Sgt Emlyn Hughes of the North Wales Police Roads Policing Unit said “Shortly before 10.30am this morning, Wednesday 18th April,  North Wales Police and other emergency services responded to the scene of a road traffic collision in Bryniau Road, Llandudno close to West Shore Surgery involving a Green Suzuki car and White Mini Cooper.  

“The driver of the Suzuki, a local man, was conveyed to hospital in a serious condition.   

"An investigation is underway and we’d like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the collision or events leading up to it to contact North Wales Police."
