FLORAL tributes have been left at the scene of a crash where a dad and his friend were killed.

Martin Kelly, who was 41 and had a daughter, died alongside his friend Danny Deegan following a collision last Wednesday. A black Ford Focus and silver Vauxhall Vivaro van were involved.

The incident happened shortly after 6pm on the A547 Abergele Road, between Old Colwyn and Llanddulas. Mr Kelly, a former Ysgol Eirias pupil in Colwyn Bay, was taken to Glan Clwyd Hospital by ambulance by later died.

Mr Deegan, from the Lancashire area, the driver of the Ford Focus, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Daniel Deegan was 26-years-old and came from the Lancashire area. His family issued a tribute to him.

It read: “A heart of gold, petrol head and fixer. A really funny family man who leaves behind four small children. A lovable rogue, known as Del Boy (from Only Fools and Horses). Very popular locally and liked by all who knew him. He also always made an instant good impact, a ray of sunshine who had a precious bond with his Mum.”

The driver of the van was left with minor injuries.

A collection of tributes have been left at the scene.

One message read: "Rip Martin. You were a genuine nice guy. I will treasure the memories I have of you.

"Life can be so cruel sometimes, leaving behind a beautiful daughter and friends behind."

Another said: "Martin. One of a kind. Love you so much mate."

A message, left for Danny, read: "Life is most definitely not going to be the same without you. You were known and loved by so many people."

Sergeant Jason Diamond of the Roads Policing Unit said: "Our thoughts very much remain with the men’s family and friends at this time.

"We are appealing for witnesses to this collision and anybody who may have information is asked to contact us.

"We are particularly interested in speaking to the occupant(s) of a small white saloon vehicle that was travelling along this road from the direction of Old Colwyn towards Llanddulas at the relevant time and who may have witnessed the collision."

The families of both men are being supported by specialist Family Liaison Officers from both North Wales Police and Lancashire Constabulary.
