Conwy County Borough Council (CCBC) have appointed a new chairperson and vice chair for 2018/19.

Councillor Peter Lewis has stepped up from his role as vice to take on the chairman role while cllr Abdul Khan been elected as his deputy.

Both said they were very humbled to be elected by their peers and were looking forward to stepping into their respective positions, starting immediately.

Cllr Lewis has represented Uwchaled electoral division for the CCBC since June 2011 and also represents the council on a number of boards including Cerrigydrudion Educational Trust, Llyn Brenig Advisory Committee, and North Wales Fire and Rescue Authority.

He said: “Personally I consider this appointment a considerable honor and am very proud.

“It is great to know your fellow councillors have that confidence in you.”

Cllr Lewis said he was hoping to be address a number of rural issues, that he has spent the past few years fighting for, while in his new position.

He said: “Rural issues are not always understood by others. But through me meeting with outside bodies and other boards I am hoping to be able to give others a better understanding of the issues affecting rural areas.

Cllr Khan will be taking on the vice chairperson role. He currently represents the Glyn electoral division while sitting on a number of boards himself, including Colwyn Bay Youth Club Liaison Committee and Theatr Colwyn Joint Management Committee.

He said he was hoping to use his new position to unify the council and make sure everyone was on the same page when making decisions.
