Colwyn Bay 262-4
Lytham 194-6
Match drawn

COLWYN BAY put an end to their five match league losing streak by drawing with reigning champions Lytham at the weekend.

The Bay scored the highest total of the day in the Liverpool Competition Premier League after declaring on 262 for four, thanks largely to mammoth totals from Carwyn Williams and Sion Morris.

After the early loss of Dave Taylor, Morris and Gareth Cross, who smashed seven fours, combined to score 59 runs for the latters wicket.

After Jordan Evans helped push the score past 100, Morris and Williams joined forces in a fourth wicket stand worth 122 runs.

Morris finished the day three short of his century, hitting eleven fours and a six from his marathon 151 balls at the crease. Williams meanwhile hit 87 off 97, including 13 boundaries, as the Bay declared on 262 for four from 58 overs.

After tea, Lytham reached 100 for the second wicket before two wickets in succession from Paul Jenkins and Arthur Jones took the wind out of their sails.
Another fightback saw them add another 88, but Jenkins again struck with two wickets in quick succession to half the fightback, forcing the visitors to play out for the draw.

Jenkins finished as the top bowler of the day with four wickets, whilst Mike Bates also claimed a wicket to round off a better afternoon for the Bay.

Seconds march on

THE BAY’S Second XI meanwhile kept their march to the Seconds First Division title after cruising to a  96 run win over Fleetwood Hesketh.

Colwyn Bay’s total of 235 in 45 overs proved too much for their hosts, who fell well short of the target after being bowled out in 33 overs.

The win keeps the Seconds 56 points clear at the top of the Second XI First Division, having played one more than second placed Leigh.
