Hawarden Park 63 all out
Llandudno 67-1
Llandudno won by nine wickets
LLANDUDNO’S hopes of winning the the North Wales Cricket league are in tatters after they were docked 18 points.
The club lost the points for fielding star bowler Gordon Kerr when he had been banned for two matches.
The league took three points from Llandudno when Kerr played at Pontblyddyn and then hit them with a 15 point deduction for playing him against Bangor in July.
The team has appealed against the points deduction and provided the League with further information.
John Rimmington said: “Llandudno CC has been in discussion with the NWCL about the eligibility status of a player for the game with Bangor, the League has issued an initial view from their last monthly meeting.
“The Club has queried this and sent further information to help the League come to a final position."
A spokesperson for the North Wales Cricket League said that the league would not comment on the issue until after their management meeting.
Ironically it was Kerr who again starred in Llandudno’s nine wicket victory against Hawarden at the weekend taking 10 wickets with Jack Rimmington as the side scored a crushing nine wicket victory bowling out their oponents for just 67 runs.
Had they not lost the points Saturday’s victory would have put Llandudno just behind front runners Menai Bridge.
Kerr produced his best performance of the season conceding just 25 runs in his seven wicket haul in 11 overs as the Park line up were removed in 23.5 overs.
Llandudno wrapped up the victory in the ninth over, with Duncan Midgley scoring 21 off 14 balls.
Firsts in Welsh final
LLANDUDNO firsts have secured their place in the Welsh Cup Final with a win against Ammanford at the Oval.
Batting first, Llandudno openers, Skipper Steve Smith and Duncan Midgley started briskly until Smith was given out LBW in the 5th over.
They lost Sam Rimmington in the next over, Jordan Kane and Midgley then made a 47 partnership for the 3rd wicket, to bring them back into the game on 75 in the 17 over. Midgley was best batsman for Llandudno with 72.
They opened as usual with their pace attack of Jack Rimmington and Gordon Kerr, Rimmington getting the first wicket in the 3rd over with the score on 6.
With 3 overs to go Ammanford needed 24 to win, with only one wicket left; but Graham Boase bowled the last man with Ammanford on 117: Llandudno winning the match by 18 runs.
Now set for the final at the SWALEC Stadium in Cardiff on Sunday August 28, Llandudno Firsts are set for a busy bank holiday weekend, playing Menai Bridge away on Saturday 27 and Pwllheli at home Monday 29.
The title challenge continues this weekend against Denbigh, whilst top two Menai Bridge and Connah’s Quay face off in a crucial title battle.
