Llandudno came out on top in their derby clash with Conwy United this week, finishing up 4-2 winners in a great contest.
With a strong wind and rain making conditions testing for both sides, Llandudno made the early running despite playing against the elements, with Tom Dixs and Ross Rule both denied by super saves from Danny Stanton in the Conwy nets whilst Ricky Jones tested Andy Rooney at the opposite end.
Kevin Fields broke the deadlock for the hosts on the half hour mark, neading home Lee Jones’ corner, but on the stroke of half time Ricky Jones hammered home a superb strike from outside the box to level the scores at the break.
Llandudno cranked up the pressure in the second half, anf on 53 minutes Darren Gowans, Rule and Dixs combined well to set up Danny Hughes, who drilled his shot into the bottom corner for Llandudno’s second goal.
Hughes rattled the bar with a rasping effort two minutes later, but the resilient Musslemen again fought back, with Chris Quinn, who had been pushed forward, takign advantage of a mix-up to fire in a sweet finish.
Tudno again took the lead though through Tim Brandreth’s curling effort, and sub Dean Seager made sure of the points with the fourth 15 minutes from time.
Llandudno manager Deiniol Graham said: “We dominated the game and were disappointed to concede tonight but we kept going showing good desire and passion”.
Joint boss Mark Hewitt said: “It was a typical local derby with lots of passion but ultimately our quality showed through in the end for a deserved three points”.
