LLANDUDNO Hockey Club stunned their City of Manchester hosts on Saturday with a brilliant second half comeback thanks to in-form striker Lewis Sanford.
Manchester made the early running, but struggled to find a way past keeper Andy Davies, whilst Llandudno looked dangerous on the break with Lewis Sanford hitting just over on the reverse and Mikey Pennington striking agonisingly wide after a superb solo run.
But a defensive mix-up allowed CoM in to open the lead.
In the second half, the visitors increased the tempo with Jonathan Davies unlucky not to score after a blistering run from left back.
A well worked move in the 49th minute saw Sanford bag the equaliser and just five minutes later Pennington thought he’d scored after the ball looked to cross the line before hitting a defenders foot.
The umpire awarded a penalty flick that Sanford made no mistake with, slotting the ball into the right side of the net after sending the ‘keeper the wrong way, moving Llandudno up to third in the table, five points behind Crewe who visit Ysgol John Bright on Saturday.
Colwyn Bay also took a point from City of Manchester with a 2-2 weekend draw.
The Ladies’ firsts won 2-0 in their derby with Llandudno last week, whilst the Seconds hammered Dysynni 6-0.
