ROB HOPLEY’S seventh goal of the season continued Colwyn Bay’s unbeaten start to 2012, as the Seagulls picked up a 1-0 win away to Worcester City.
Hopley’s eleventh minute goal secured the Bay’s third win in four as they bossed proceedings against their midlands hosts, and player-boss Jon Newby said he was delighted with his side’s recent run of form.
“Ten points from twelve at any stage of the season is a great result, but to get three wins away from home is particularly pleasing, as well as taking three clean sheets,” he said.
“We kept pushing all over the pitch, and all credit goes to the lads for this run of form.”
Newby, who highlighted a switch to a 4-5-1 formation as the foundation for the Bay’s impressive performance, said that he was enjoying life in the Llanelian Road hotseat, and hoped his in-form side could take advantage of a dip in fortunes for this weekend’s opponents Stalybridge Celtic.
“The chairman has just told us to get on with it, and as far as I’m concerned I’m the manager and things are going well.
“It’s easy to say when things are going well but I’m really enjoying it at the moment, particularly when a little thing, like squad selection or a change in formation pays off.”
“They’re not second in the table for no reason, but they’re not in a great run of form and conceded five at the weekend, and we have to try to take advantage of that. We’re under no illusions though and it’ll be a tough game.”
Hopley swept in at the second time of asking after his initial effort was blocked by keeper James Dormand, with new recruit Shelton Payne again the provider with a darting run and low cross.
At the other end, Frank Sinclair continued his impressive start to life in sky blue with an assured performance alongside Matt Hughes, whilst keeper Chris Sanna made a solid save to deny Tom Thornley from close range late on.
