MORAWELON have been crowned champions of the Konx Wales Anglesey in their first season.

The NWCFA Junior Cup winners added the league title to their trophy collection after a thrilling afternoon of football last Saturday.

The Holy Island outfit were handed the title after main rivals Llanerchymedd were held to a draw by Llanfairpwll Reserves, when nothing less than a win could keep their title hopes alive.

At the same time, Morawelon came from behind to overcome Llangoed 4-3 to secure the victory that took them over the winning line.

Morawelon’s victory looked unlikely at one point, as they were stunned by the visitor’s lightning start.

Wayne Thomas gave Llan a seventh minute lead to dampen the home fans’ hopes, before Dylan Williams extended the visitors’ lead ten minutes later.

Jordan Murphy responded for the Moras on 33 minutes to go into the break one down.

Five minutes into the second half, Gary Jo Owen hit the equaliser from the spot after a Llangoed infringement, and the comeback looked complete 15 minutes later when Harri Chandler netted a third.

However, Tom Parry struck on 69 minutes to bring Llangoed level once more.

Both sides chased a crucial seventh goal, and it was the visitors who were once again punished for a foul in the area on 80 minutes.

Jo Owen stepped up for a second time and confidently dispatched to earn an enthralling three points in the league chase.

After the final whistle, Morawelon players and officials waited for word from Llanfairpwll, where rivals Llanerchymedd could deny the Holy Island side for another week.

The game began well for Llanfair and indeed Mor, as Tim Evans hit a seventh minute opener.

‘Medd hit back on 33 minutes through Gav Sharpe, and they went ahead just after half time when the prolific Andrew Bailey netted.

Three minutes later though Llanfair swung the match back into the Mora’s favour through Nathan Morris.

Llanerchymedd looked for another to keep their title hopes alive, and they came close through Bailey, who thought he had headed his second, only to be denied by the linesman’s flag.

The tightly fought match ended two apiece, sparking wild celebrations in Holyhead when news of their maiden Anglesey League title win was confirmed.
