A TYPICAL gung-ho performance from Mochdre big hitter Will Evans helped his side land a classic cup victory over Colwyn Bay to win Section One of the Welsh Cup.

Bay opener Carwyn Williams gave his side the advantage with a powerful 120 not out, backed up by 38 from Sion Morris and 20 from George Johansen as they racked up 217 for six. Russ Boswell and Gareth Goodson both chipped in with two wickets each for Mochdre.

But an even more impressive performance from attacking batsman Evans evened up the score board, smashing 115 off 70 balls including 10 fours and 7 sixes before being caught out with the score on 176 for seven.

Gareth Davies added 18 from the middle order, and after Evans’ departure, measured batting from Gareth Colman (13) and Adam Jones (10) landed victory in the 44th over.

Paul Jenkins was the Bay’s top bowler with three for 25, including Evans’ wicket, with Arthur Jones and Sion Morris took two each.

Mochdre will host the winners of Usk CC versus Pontypridd, who play next Sunday, in the Cup quarter finals on July 22.

Llandudno will be looking to join their neighbours in the hat for the next round when they take on fellow Section 2 finalists Mold on Sunday.
