COLWYN Bay are through to the next round of the Emirates FA cup after a 1-0 win at Evostik Division One South club Shaw Lane AFC.
The Seagulls had a Gareth Burnett strike to thank for their triumph, and will now face the long trip to Morpeth Town of the Northern League on Saturday, September 3.
Manager Paul Moore, said: ““In the FA Cup it doesn’t really matter how you perform, it’s all about getting into the next round. “This was always going to be a tough tie. They were runners-up in their league last season and playoff finalists but we’ve come away from home and won it and that’s a fantastic effort from the boys. “We’ve kept a clean sheet and perhaps we could have scored another one or two goals in the second half to kill the game off, but I’m really, really happy with the result. “You can expect to come under pressure late in the game when the opposition are fighting to save the game, but we stayed firm, and everyone from one to 11 put in a really good shift. “I’m disappointed that more of the lads on the bench couldn’t get on, but the game was so tight and I didn’t want to risk making changes and possibly conceding a goal. “Now we’ve got a long, long trip to Morpeth (Northumberland) in the next round, but we’re still in the FA Cup and we’ll enjoy it while we are.” In the first half Burnett had a shot turned away for a corner by home keeper Mateusz Zaniewski and hit another shot just wide before scoring the only goal of the game on 39 minutes with a shot from the edge of the area. Only a fine save by the keeper prevented Burnett adding a second after he had been played in by Chris Gahgan, and Danny Andrews’ 40 yard effort went narrowly wide. The Seagulls return to league action this weekend when they travel to Scarborough Athletic (3pm).
